Experience the power of public education.
April 6, 2017
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As partners in your child’s education, it is important to ensure that they are prepared for each step along their educational journey. One way to determine student preparedness is through assessment; therefore, we will be administering ACT Aspire Tests to students on April 10 – 21, 2017.
ACT Aspire test results will provide important information regarding how your child is progressing at his/her current grade level. Test scores will indicate which important skills, abilities, and knowledge your student has now, and which ones need to be learned for school success in the future. Results will help your child’s teacher understand where your child is succeeding, as well as where extra help or academic focus is needed. ACT Aspire will also provide specific suggestions for improving skills.
Please be advised of the following schedule of the ACT Aspire Summative Assessment for Sylvan Hills Middle School:

How can you help?
· Please make sure your child gets adequate sleep and has a good breakfast on testing days to ensure a successful testing experience.
· Remind your child to NOT have their cellphones in the testing room. Please refer to the district policy in the handbook that state the following regarding cellphones during assessments:
§ Electronic devices, electronic communication devices, and/or electronic devices with photographic capabilities confiscated during State mandated tests (11th Grade Literacy, End of Course Exams, and norm referenced tests) will not be returned until the end of the school year. (A.C.A. 6-18-502)
· Please make sure that your student is present on ALL testing days.
· Remember to charge Chromebooks at night so that students are ready to take assessments. The summative assessments are computer-based for all subjects. Parents will be notified regarding students who do not have their Chromebook during testing.
