SHERWOOD, Ark. -- Sylvan Hills Middle School 6th grade students recently read Gary Paulsen’s “Hatchet.” After completing the independent reading project, the students designed a poster to explain the theme statement of the story. They also created a plot diagram of the story and were required to explain the different elements included.
The Do Two, Choose Two assignment then required students to choose two of the following projects: create a summary of the story, create a sequel to the story, create a picture of a scene from the story, or discuss a conflict and resolution within the story.
The students had a lot of fun with the project and showcased their creativity.
