Students in Ms. Crites' math class had a scavenger hunt around the room this week. This was a creative way for the students to figure out and comprehend classroom procedures and where items are around the class. We love seeing how the students are getting acclimated to new classrooms.

Spotted: Mr. Hudgeons (principal at SYLVAN HILLS MIDDLE) talking on 2 phones at the same time while wearing a brace to heal a broken thumb and nearly 1000 people tour the school during open house. Is he the real Batman?

‘Twas the night before school starts
And all through the town
Not a teacher was sleeping
For excitement abound.
The students all nestled
Asleep in their beds.
Knowing this school year will bring
So much knowledge for their heads.
Our scholars already know
That we go the distance
To insure we provide
Equity and Excellence!

Welcome to SHMS 22-23! We are so looking forward to Monday morning and getting the year started. Here’s a few tips to hopefully make the day easier for parents and students.
1. Be patient. 1/3 of the kids are new, 1/4 of the teachers are new, 3/5 of the administrators are new, and 5/6 of the office staff are new.
2. 1st Day traffic is a BEAR, it gets better every day. The lot in front of the gym is for teacher parking and special bus transportation only…no student drop off or pick up except those with special transportation needs.
3. How is your student getting home? Do they know? We normally start asking that question about 1:00 on the 1st day and we normally have 300 or so who don’t know the answer.
4. Just relax…we’ll take of them 😎
I don’t leave until they’re all picked up. Message me with any concerns.

Arkansas Peace Week is coming up September 18-25! They are holding a youth art contest for 1st-12th graders. Prizes will be award for 1st-3rd place. Deadline to enter is September 6.
